[…] More work being done on the piers. The drilling rig had gone and the piers were being cut off to the proper height.

[…] 4.20pm – Debra saw (on grasslands north of bridge) 1 Purple Swamphen; 1 Great Egret; 1 Willy Wagtail; 1 Rail; 1 Ibis and 1 Pacific Black Duck in adjacent to bridge on northern side. Must have been a day for individuals. A few photos showing progress
Howard visited the work site and talked to the construction workers. It was good to hear that the resident black snake had been seen and was being treated with respect. See some photos from the site below.
[…] Steve observed a pair of adult Australian Wood Ducks with two young. Howard observed flock of white ibis in the middle of the grassy patch. Howard saw a white fronted heron on the northern side of the bridge about 2 pm. There were also purple swamp heads grazing on the eastern side of the creek along the road verge. Howard observed 5 royal spoonbills, 3 Australian wood ducks, a small egret (intermediate?)
Howard observed three royal spoonbills, Australian wood ducks and purple swamp hens.
Howard observed 5 or 6 Australian Wood ducks feeding in the waterway west of the creek. Howard observed that there were no birds in the area of the bridge or upstream. Howard, from the car, saw one purple swamp hen on the north east side of the bridge. There did not seem to be any more birds in the grassy area. Howard observed the egret about 15 metres north of the bridge hunting in the small watercourse west of the creek. There was a solitary purple swamp hen in and out of the reeds on the north side of the bridge. Some photos of the “hunt”. Its not clear what it caught. Click on images for […] Howard observed the white fronted heron that flew overhead this morning. The two masked lapwings were still on the grassy area about 40m from the bridge. There were three purple swamp hens active along the edge of the creek. There was a small flock of crested pigeons on the grass west of Mayflower […] Howard observed a pair of masked lapwings on the northern side of the bridge. There was also a pair of black ducks on the northern side of the bridge feeding in the weeds along the water course to the west of the main creek line. A white fronted heron flew across the road to the […] Howard observed one purple swamp hen on the north east side of the bridge and the egret at the northern end near Gray Street. Debra saw 3 Purple Swamp Hen (same ones as previously seen I am pretty sure) grazing on grass north side of bridge. Howard observed that the creek was still flooded and two masked lapwings were just north of the bridge. Howard observed flooded creek (photos to follow). There was a great egret to the north of the bridge as well as black Ducks and purple swamp hens. 3.30pm: Debra saw 4 Wood Ducks, 3 galahs & 2 Cattle Egrets north side of bridge, grazing. 4pm Debra saw 3 Purple Swamp hens grazing north of bridge (look like the same 3 observed on many occasions). Debra also saw a person poisoning weeds on bridge walkway and spoke to the person about not using weed killer near the creek. Debra saw 9 Wood Ducks and 1 Peewee grazing on north-west side of bridge (grass area). |
