Howard observed that there has been progress with the bridge supports on the eastern end of the new bridge.

Friday 20th November 2015 at 12 noon

More work being done on the piers. The drilling rig had gone and the piers were being cut off to the proper height.

4.20pm – Debra saw (on grasslands north of bridge) 1 Purple Swamphen; 1 Great Egret; 1 Willy Wagtail; 1 Rail; 1 Ibis and 1 Pacific Black Duck in adjacent to bridge on northern side.  Must have been a day for individuals.

Friday 30th October 2015 4 pm

Howard visited the work site and talked to the construction workers. It was good to hear that the resident black snake had been seen and was being treated with respect. See some photos from the site below.

Monday 26th October 2015

Steve observed a pair of adult Australian Wood Ducks with two young.

Friday 23 October 2015 at 5 pm

Howard observed flock of white ibis in the middle of the grassy patch.

Tuesday 20th October 2015 at 2 pm

Howard saw a white fronted heron on the northern side of the bridge about 2 pm. There were also purple swamp heads grazing on the eastern side of the creek along the road verge.

Bridge Reconstruction from October 26th to December 16th

Bridge replacement

26 October 2015 to 16 December 2015 Union Creek Bridge, Belinda Street, Gerringong

Weather permitting Council contractors will be undertaking Bridge Replacement work at the above location on Belinda Street, Gerringong from Monday 26 October 2015 to Wednesday 16 December 2015.

Belinda Street will be closed to through traffic between Campbell Street and Rowlins Road from the above date. It will be reopened from 16 December 2015 weather permitting.

A temporary footbridge for pedestrian traffic will be in place. Authorised Traffic Controllers will be supervising the closed work area.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused by this necessary work.

Greg and Debra observed a large number of cattle egrets in mating plumage in the middle grassed area north of the bridge.

Howard observed 5 royal spoonbills, 3 Australian wood ducks, a small egret (intermediate?)

Wednesday 16th September 2015 at 3.15 pm

Howard observed three royal spoonbills, Australian wood ducks and purple swamp hens.

Thursday 10th September 2015 at 2.30 pm

Howard observed 5 or 6 Australian Wood ducks feeding in the waterway west of the creek.

Wednesday 9th September 2015 at 8.30 am

Howard observed that there were no birds in the area of the bridge or upstream.

Saturday 5th September 2015 at 4.30 pm

Howard, from the car, saw one purple swamp hen on the north east side of the bridge. There did not seem to be any more birds in the grassy area.

Friday 4th September 2015 at 12.15 pm

Howard observed the egret about 15 metres north of the bridge hunting in the small watercourse west of the creek.

There was a solitary purple swamp hen in and out of the reeds on the north side of the bridge.

Wednesday 2nd September 2015 at 3 pm

Howard observed the white fronted heron that flew overhead this morning. The two masked lapwings were still on the grassy area about 40m from the bridge.

There were three purple swamp hens active along the edge of the creek.

There was a small flock of crested pigeons on the grass west of Mayflower Village.

Wednesday 2nd September 2015 at 9.30 am

Howard observed a pair of masked lapwings on the northern side of the bridge. There was also a pair of black ducks on the northern side of the bridge feeding in the weeds along the water course to the west of the main creek line.

A white fronted heron flew across the road to the area near Mayflower Village.

Sunday 30th August 2015 3.30pm

Howard observed one purple swamp hen on the north east side of the bridge and the egret at the northern end near Gray Street.

Debra saw 3 Purple Swamp Hen (same ones as previously seen I am pretty sure) grazing on grass north side of bridge.

Wednesday 26th August at 8.45 am

Howard observed that the creek was still flooded and two masked lapwings were just north of the bridge.

Tuesday August 25th at 4 pm

Howard observed flooded creek (photos to follow). There was a great egret to the north of the bridge as well as black Ducks and purple swamp hens.

Tuesday 18th August 2015

3.30pm: Debra saw 4 Wood Ducks, 3 galahs & 2 Cattle Egrets north side of bridge, grazing.

Sunday 16th August 2015

4pm  Debra saw 3 Purple Swamp hens grazing north of bridge (look like the same 3 observed on many occasions).

Debra also saw a person poisoning weeds on bridge walkway and spoke to the person about not using weed killer near the creek.

Wednesday 12th August 2015 at ???

Debra saw 9 Wood Ducks and 1 Peewee grazing on north-west side of bridge (grass area).
